Abbott Laboratories Information
AbbVie was founded in 2013 by the company Abbott Laboratories, which was formed in 1888 by Dr. Wallace C. Abbott. The company started out in Illinois, and was first called the Abbott Alkaloidal Company. Over the next two decades, the company expanded to include locations in Seattle, New York, and San Francisco as well as international locations in India and Canada. Throughout the 1900s, Abbot Laboratories produced a number of medical products including anesthetics, antibiotics, heart medicines and disease diagnosis kits. In 2010, Abbot acquired a number of other pharmaceutical-related companies, including Facet Biotech Technologies, Piramel Healthcare, Ltd. and STARLIMS technoligies.
AbbVie was split off from Abbott to manage the pharmaceutical business in 2013.
About AbbVie Patient Assistance Programs
AbbVie offers several patient assistant programs through the AbbVie Patient Assistance Foundation, which provides free AbbVie medicines to qualifying patients. The organization also provides free medical nutritional products, including Ensure®, Pediasure®, Glucerna®, ProViMin®, Hi-Cal®, Jevity® and more. These are designed to help infants as well as adult patients with diabetes, kidney disease, and other illnesses or nutrient deficiencies get proper nutrition. AbbVie also co-sponsors the Together Rx Access Card along with several other major pharmaceutical companies.
