Lantus Background

Lantus® was approved by the FDA in 2000, and is the brand name for insulin glargine solution. It is injected once daily, at the same time each day.[2] The manufacturer does not recommend the medication for patients who are allergic to insulin, and Lantus® may cause side effects in some individuals. The most common of these is rapid heartbeat, sweating, blurry vision, and shaking. Reactions may also happen at the injection site, causing itching and a rash.[1]

How to Get Lantus Samples

  • The only way to obtain free samples of Lantus® is through a patient's doctor or healthcare provider, who are sometimes given free samples of the medication. If a patient's doctor does not have samples on hand, he or she can request them through the "Request Samples Now" section on the official Sanofi' physician website. Samples are available for the Lantus® SoloSTAR Pen.[1]
  • In addition to free samples, Sanofi also offers patients other discount options, including the Lantus® Savings Card, good for up to six Lantus® SoloSTAR Pen prescriptions. Eligible patients will pay no more than $25 a month for their prescription. Cards may be obtained from a patients' doctors or from the official Lantus® website as a printable voucher.[5]
  • There are three main patient assistance programs for Lantus®, including Patient Assistance Connection and Reimbursement Connection. To qualify for Patient Assistance Connection, patients must be uninsured and may receive free medicine for up to a year. To qualify for Reimbursement Connection, patients may be insured but their insurance must not cover a particular Sanofi medication. The latter service helps these insured patients appeal their insurance company's assistance denial. The company also offers the Resource Connection, which helps patients find additional options for covering the medication costs.[4]
