About Levemir

Levemir® is a long-acting version of synthetic insulin, and works by replacing the insulin that a diabetic's body does not make on its own. It also prevents the production of more sugar by the liver, and helps distribute sugar in the blood to the rest of the body's tissues.[4]

Patients who take too much of the medication may experience hypoglycemia (extremely low blood sugar). This is one of the many common side effects of Levemir®. Other common reactions include redness, itching, and swelling at the point of injection.

Levemir Patient Assistance Programs and Coupons

  • The "Levemir® Care" program is free for consumers to register for on the medication's official website and helps patients save up to $50 a month on their Levemir® prescriptions. This offer is delivered in the form of a printable copay coupon. In order to determine eligibility and savings, patients must fill out a form that includes details about their insurance coverage. For example, patients with Medicare, Medicaid, or other state and federal programs are not eligible.
  • Another way for patients to save is through the Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program. This program offers qualified patients up to 90 days of free Levemir®. Patients must first fill out an application, which is available to download from the program's official website.[5]
  • In addition to coupons and assistance programs, patients can request free samples of Levemir® directly from their doctors. Nova Nordisk allows healthcare professionals to order free samples of Levemir® from the company's official healthcare website.[6]
