Stelara®, a prescription immunosuppressant, reduces the effects of inflammation in the body. It is primarily used to treat adults with plaque psoriasis, a condition with raised and silvery flaking of the skin. Stelara® is administered as an injection underneath the skin by a licensed health care provider. After the initial two starter injections, follow up doses will be administered approximately 12 weeks apart.
Stelara® may decrease the number of blood cells that work to help the body fight infection, adversely affecting the immune system. This makes it easier to contract an illness or infection and may also increase the risk of some forms of cancer.
Stelara Coupons and Patient Assistance Programs
For patients with private insurance, the Stelara® Instant Savings Program issues a prescription savings card that reduces out-of-pocket expenses associated with the costs of treatment. This includes the co-payment, deductible and co-insurance medication costs for up to six months. Eligible patients may receive the first three injections at no cost, and then pay $50 for each $1,050 in co-pays for shots four thru six, with a maximum benefit of $3,000 for the final three doses.
To be eligible for the instant savings card, patients must:
- be prescribed Stelara® for its FDA-approved use in the treatment of plaque psoriasis
- have commercial insurance that covers the costs associated with Stelara® prescriptions.
Patients without prescription coverage for Stelara® may be eligible for assistance through JJPAF. An application must be completed to determine if the specific medical and financial criteria are met. JJPAF patient assistance specialists are available with specific information for individual cases at 800-652-6227.
Recipients of Medicaid, Medicare, or other insurance who still are unable to afford Stelara® may be eligible for assistance through independent foundation assistance programs.
