Symbicort® is prescribed to patients to prevent inflammation of the airways to the lungs, a primary symptom of severe asthma and COPD. Symbicort® is an aerosol inhalant containing two drugs that, when combined, help reduce swelling in the airway and relax muscles so patients can breathe easier.
By preventing inflammation, Symbicort® helps to alleviate asthma attacks triggered by pollen, smoke, and dust. These triggers can cause wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Symbicort® is not intended to be used as a remedy for sudden asthma attacks; rather it is intended to prevent attacks from occurring.
