Viibryd® is a type of antidepressant known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Viibryd® is a unique new SSRI, and may have different or less severe side effects than other SSRI medications.
Serious side effects associated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as Viibryd®, are suicidal thoughts or behaviors in children, adolescents, and young adults (patients under the age of 24). Patients over the age of 24 may experience suicidal thoughts at the beginning of treatment or when dosages are changed. Patients experiencing extreme worry, panic attacks; difficulty sleeping, aggressive behavior, or frenzied abnormal excitement may require medical treatment.
Viibryd® is taken once a day with food, and it may cause gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. For this reason, patients often start a new Viibryd® prescription with a starter kit, which contains low-dose tablets to start, and increases the dose over time.
Viibryd® Patient Assistance Programs and Coupons
Several programs may help defray the cost of a Viibryd® prescription:
- Forest Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the manufacturer of Viibryd®, offers a patient assistance program which offers discounts to patients who meet income requirements. The application form must be filled out by the patient and the patient's doctor, and if a patient qualifies a three-month supply of medication is shipped to the doctor, to be dispensed to the patient.
- Forest Pharmaceuticals maintains a mailing list for patients taking Viibryd®. They send periodic updates about Viibryd® and may include discounts with those updates.
- Prescribing doctors' offices may have free samples of Viibryd® available to patients. These samples are sometimes packaged with coupons to be used when filling a prescription at a pharmacy.
- Pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid offer discount programs which can help reduce the cost of prescriptions. Other programs are available through AAA and Humana Walmart.
