Wellbutrin XL® Background

Wellbutrin XL® is a brand name for bupropion, an antidepressant that was approved by the FDA in 1985. Wellbutrin® is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. The most common side effects associated with Wellbutrin XL® include weight loss, constipation, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, and shaking. In severe cases, it may cause seizures. In some very rare cases, antidepressants like Wellbutrin® can cause suicidal thoughts. This is most common among people under the age of 24.[2]

Wellbutrin® is known to have fewer sexual side effects than other antidepressants. Wellbutrin® is not approved for smoking cessation, although is may sometimes be used to help quit. Another bupropion medication, Zyban, is FDA approved for smoking cessation.[1]
